With 60,000 fans rooting against him, Seattle Seahawks kicker Josh Brown stepped up and drilled a 54-yard, game-winning field goal in a 30-28 win over the St. Louis Rams.

The 26-year-old Brown, in his fourth year in the NFL out of Nebraska, has hit 10 of his first 14 field goal tries this season for the defending NFC champions.

Earlier in the game against the Rams, he missed a short field goal try. As a kicker, one of his most important tasks is to focus on the future, not dwell on the past. He went on to hit three field goals in the game, all more than 40 yards. That earned Brown the SCF Athlete of the Month nod from SCF.

“You’re going to miss,” he said after the game. “You’re going to have things go wrong. If you allow things to bother you, you’re never going to move forward.”

That advice works for 10-year NFL veterans and 10-year-old Pee-Wee rookies.

“My advice to kids that want to play football is to take the opportunities given to them and run with them,” he said. “If you’re going to work for something, work for it and be committed to it. Work hard and play hard.”
